QUESTIONS :

Please answer the questions below briefly:

1. Give your own idea/opinions about:

a.  Culture

Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.

b. Interculture

Intercultural is something that occurs between people of different cultures including different religious groups or people of different national origins.

c. Cross culture

Cross Culture is dealing with or offering comparison between two or more different cultures or cultural areas.

d. Multiculture

Multicultural means consisting of or relating to people of many different nationalities and cultures.

2. Give one example of cultural conflict and offer the solution for its adjustment!

One of the cultural conflicts that exist around me is that many people do things that are not appropriate. Like kissing and getting drunk in public places, even though that is not the culture of Indonesian society, especially Malay people. The more sophisticated the technology, the more western culture that is not in line with local culture is entered and applied. One way to overcome this problem is to provide penalties or sanctions either legally state law or punishment from an area or culture in an area itself.

3. How do you define:

a. Mosaic

Cultural mosaic is the mix of ethnic groups, languages and cultures that co-exist within society. The idea of a cultural mosaic is intended to champion an ideal of multiculturalism.

b. Melting pot

The melting pot is a metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogenous, the different elements "melting together" into a harmonious whole with a common culture. It is particularly used to describe the assimilation of immigrants to USA.

c. Stereotype

Stereotype is an idea that is used to describe a particular type of person or thing, or a person or thing thought to represent such an idea

d. Prejudice

Gordon Allport defined prejudice as a "feeling, favorable or unfavorable, toward a person or thing, prior to, or not based on, actual experience".

Auestad (2015) defines prejudice as characterized by 'symbolic transfer', transfer of a value-laden meaning content onto a socially formed category and then on to individuals who are taken to belong to that category, resistance to change, and overgeneralization.
